Development cooperation is one of the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs' principal tasks. The Netherlands contributes four billion
euros per year towards the development of poor countries around the
world.
dance4life became a partner organisation of the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs in 2009. Speaking about dance4life, Paul Bekkers,
the Dutch AIDS Ambassador has said,
"The Netherlands supports the internationally agreed goal of
calling a halt to the spread of HIV and AIDS in 2015 (MDG6).
HIV-prevention and enhancing human rights are two priorities in the
Dutch policy and an important group to focus on consists of young
people. After all half of the new HIV infections every day occur
among young people under 25 years old.
dance4life is an important partner organisation of the Dutch
Government due to the fact that they are able to reach, involve and
empower young people all around the world to push back the spread
of HIV and AIDS. dance4life inspires young people to change their
life, to go out and do something about it, becoming a volunteer,
fundraiser or peer educator. Dancing energizes and we need a lot of
energy of many people to stop the further spreading of HIV and
AIDS."
