Oxfam Novib is part of Oxfam International, a confederation of
thirteen organisations working together with over 3,000 partners in
more than 100 countries. They work to find lasting solutions to
poverty, suffering and injustice. As a global partner of
dance4life, they fund dance4life international and use their
contacts to assist with the setting-up of new dance4life
countries.
Here Sylvia Borren, the Executive Director of Oxfam Novib, talks
about the partnership between Oxfam Novib and dance4life, and what
it means to them:
"Oxfam Novib does much HIV and AIDS work on a national level, and
supports our global partner (International Community of Women
Living with HIV/AIDS). However our Global Programme felt that much
more investment was still needed in the serious question of how to
get large numbers of people actively involved in pushing back HIV
and AIDS, and especially in speaking to and engaging young
people.
dance4life is a concept that complements these already existing
networks and established institutions around HIV and AIDS. We can
therefore reach groups of people who we haven't been able to reach
previously. dance4life works successively together with companies,
media, celebrities and has a huge magnetism. And the combination of
education, life skills training, fundraising, music and dance,
works brilliantly.
The principal way in which dance4life helps achieves Oxfam's goals
are by the broadening of support to young people in different
countries in pushing back HIV and AIDS. dance4life is a truly
positive way to get thousands of youth actively involved. Oxfam
strives to build an international movement of concerned global
citizens, and dance4life fits perfectly in this goal."
