Local HIV/AIDS info

According to research conducted by the Institute for Public Health, at the end of November 2010, 2,554 people are registered as infected with HIV, from which 1,524 people have AIDS. 1,071 people that are HIV positive have died (from those, 995 died from AIDS and 76 from conditions not related to the HIV infection) in Serbia.  

It is estimated that approximately 3,500 people don`t know about their HIV status. Most of the newly registered HIV positive people in 2010. are aged between 20-29 years (37 % or 39 people), and every third person is between 20 and 29 years old. During 2010, 25 % (26 people) discovered their HIV status in the terminal stadium of infection, clinically manifested as AIDS.
