NCOs
An NCO stands for a National Concept Owner - an organisation who runs Dance4Life in their own country.
In 2004 more than 20,000 young people participated as Agents of Change in three countries; Indonesia, South Africa and the Netherlands. In 2006 ten countries participated in Dance4Life with Schools4Life: Africa (Egypt, South Africa, Tanzania and Nigeria), Asia (Vietnam) and Europe (Germany, Ireland, The Netherlands, Russia and United Kingdom). In 2008 at least 20 countries will take part, with over 300,000 young people in the Heart Connection Tour.

Egypt The NCO in Egypt is the Youth4Life Foundation. It works closely with organisations like UNAIDS, Nile FM, Caritas Egypt, Global Youth Partners, UNICEF, El Sawy Culture Wheel, EFC and many others. To email Dance4Life Egypt, click here.
Germany The NCO of Dance4Life in Germany is the non-profit association Dance4Life Deutschland e.V. Nationally it works closely with organisations such as Deutsche Aids Hilfe e.V. and in certain federal states, Deutsche Stiftung Weltbevölkerung and Quartier e.V.. Ireland The Irish NCO is the Irish Family Planning Association (IFPA) who are working in close partnership with the Sexual Health Centre in Cork. Links have been established with a range of organisations and Irish Aid, the Department with responsibility for Development Assistance, is the chief funder. D4L Ireland 2006 is also financially supported by the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Durex Ireland. Email Dance4Life Ireland!
Kenya The mission of the Africa Alive!, the Kenyan NCO, is to educate and give youth the skills they need in pushing back HIV and AIDS through the medium of popular entertainment. The vision is of a new generation of Africans who are free of HIV and AIDS. Working in five African countries the projects regional office is in Nairobi, Kenya. The Kenyan chapter of Africa Alive! has integrated Dance4Life into the ongoing work they are doing.
Africa Alive! aims to create an African network where youth HIV and AIDS prevention programmes at local, national, and regional levels can share ideas, have a common, focused strategy and solicit funding for their programmes. With support from the Johns Hopkins University Center for Communication Programs (JHU/CCP), the Africa Alive! network will help organizations that have formerly been working on their own to access a wealth of experience, support and expertise from colleagues within Africa and throughout the world.
Mexico Dance4Life Mexico’s NCO is the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), international development agency that promotes the right of every woman, man and child to enjoy a life of health and equal opportunity. A Board is being set up, who will design, execute and supervise Dance4Life, made up of four organisations: MEXFAM, AVE de México, ELIGE, and VIVIR. Moldova AIDS Foundation East-West (AFEW) is a Dutch NGO working towards the reduction of the impact of HIV and AIDS in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. They started working in Moldova in 2004 and are currently implementing a series of national mass-media campaigns targeted at promoting safer sex behaviours among youth, and reducing stigma around HIV and AIDS.
Dance4Life Moldova are working with lots of partners to make the projects successful, including: Ministry of Education and Youth; Ministry of Health; Country Coordination Mechanism; National AIDS Centre; Republican Dermato Venereal Dispenser; National Scientific Centre of Preventive Medicine; UNAIDS Moldova; SIDA; UCIMP TB/SIDA; NGO National Health Journalists Communication Network; Credinta Association (PLWH); Centre of Young Journalists Moldova (CTJM); Association of Young Trainers from Moldova; NGO Gender Doc M; Representation in Moldova of TV and radio company MIR; and radio Station KISS FM. Netherlands Dance4Life was founded in the Netherlands in 2003, and Dance4Life Netherlands was one of the first countries. The NCO is STOP AIDS NOW!, an organisation which is a partnership between AIDS Fonds and four Dutch organisations providing internatioanl development aid. Nigeria There are two NCOs in Nigeria. iEARN Nigeria takes the lead and responsibility over the content of the project and Storm Vision will take the lead and responsibility over the media and television part of the project. Combined they have a great network in the private, public and government field. On the content level the following stakeholders are involved with Schools4Life: Youth Empowerment Foundation (YEF), Adolescent Health and Information Project (AHIP), Girls Power Initiative, Journalists Against AIDS (JAAIDS) and Education as a Vaccine against AIDS (EVA). Russia FOCUS-MEDIA Foundation, who have implemented Dance4Life in Russia since 2005, is one of the most visible expert organizations working for prevention, tolerance and awareness of HIV and AIDS and related problems in Russia and NIS countries. Vast experience in organizational development allows FOCUS-MEDIA to develop and implement comprehensive projects that combine tackling the public health problem with reinforcing governmental and non-governmental organisations working in this field and beyond.
The mission of the Foundation is creating healthy, tolerant and prosperous communities through enlightening, educating and involving people and organizations in activities aimed at improving their living conditions and health. The Foundation’s main tools are unique combination of social marketing techniques, education programs, and mass media campaigns based on promoting deliberate choice and personal responsibility. South Africa Dance4Life South Africa is a registered not-for profit Section 21 Company that has been established especially to co-ordinate, develop and organise the Dance4Life concept in South Africa. The Dance4Life South Africa office was opened in 2005 and is located in Durban, South Africa. Dance4Life South Africa works with organisations like God's Golden Acre, DramAide, and ten other organisations on the implementation of a STOP AIDS NOW! project on orphaned and vulnerable children. Turkey UNFPA is the National Concept Owner of Dance4Life Turkey. Y-PEER, the Youth Peer Education Network launched by the UNFPA, is a global network of youth peer educators, a "social movement of youth reaching out to their peers". This continually expanding network includes young people working in the broad areas of adolescent sexual and reproductive health in Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East, and both North and East Africa. UNFPA/Y-PEER will implement Dance4Life Turkey in partnership with two Turkish organisations, the Positive Living Association and the Turkish Education Association. UNFPA/Y-PEER have been focusing on HIV and peer education in Turkey for the past five years.

USA Student Partnerships Worldwide USA, (SPW), based in Washington, DC, is the Dance4Life NCO in the USA. SPW is an international, youth-led development agency that trains peer educators to work in rural communities in South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. SPW is working with national partners, Metro TeenAIDS (MTA) and Red Zebra, to implement the Dance4Life USA program. Dance4Life USA is planning its pilot program in Washington, DC in 2008 and will be targeting schools in low income and underserved communities. Email Dance4Life USA
