CEO of Coca-Cola dances 4Life in Zambia
13-02-2008
The Boys and the Girls High School in Matero, Zambia hosted a very unusual event last week! They invited the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Coca-Cola Company, Neville Isdell together with a delegation of senior executives of Coca-Cola and the Zambian Minister for Education to experience Dance4Life.
The 50 Zambian pupils performed the Dance4Life Drill, which connects them to the international Dance4Life response to HIV and AIDS. Then a 17 year old pupil, Siyanga, spoke about how Dance4Life has made an impact on her life. She said that other HIV projects were boring, but that Dance4Life was exciting, and unlike the other projects, it involved her.
One of the Tour Team members then invited the important visitor to take off their ties and jackets, and come and join them in dancing the Drill! And they did, dancing in the middle of the young people that they are supporting through The Coca-Cola Africa Foundation.
Dance4Life not only connects with the hearts of young people but also brings them into contact with our world’s most prominent and powerful individuals. Seeing Neville Isdell dancing with those young people demonstrates that what we do is powerful enough to overcome geographical borders, social and economic differences and unites young people from different backgrounds with one goal: the elimination of HIV and AIDS.”
The CEO, Neville Isdell, said at the end: “Dance4Life is a wonderful demonstration of the power of young people. They become Agents of Change in their communities by tackling the impact of HIV and AIDS on their daily lives. Zambian youth are becoming part of a global movement and asserting their claim on their own future as global citizens. Coca-Cola as a global brand is proud to support the work of Dance4Life. I am particularly encouraged by the response of Zambian youth to the project.”
