Dance4Life Zimbabwe asked to suspend programmes

13-06-2008

In line with the Zimbabwean Government’s recent ban on all aid and NGO activity, Students Partnership Worldwide (SPW) Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwean NCO for Dance4Life, has immediately suspended all programmatic activity, including Dance4Life.

While this is a disappointing intervention, it highlights the urgent needs of Zimbabwe’s young people and the need for programmes such as Dance4Life to mobilise young people to take up an active role in the development of their own futures and help push back HIV and AIDS.

SPW Zimbabwe is part of the National Association of Non Governmental Organisations (NANGO) which, together with other NGO groupings and the UN, is seeking an audience with government to be advised on the way forward to urgently re-start our activities.

During this suspension period, SPW Zimbabwe are focusing their attention on developing programmatic strategy and planning for implementation once the ban is lifted.

Zimbabwe’s run-off election is scheduled to be held on 27 June and the outcome of this election will help determine the status of the current ban.
