Siyabhabha

South Africa is hit hard by the AIDS epidemic. The country has one million AIDS orphans. The day care Tumelong Haven of Siyabhabha in Pretoria is a safe place for these children: a place to play and get food. And a hug.

Kgomotso is six years old. His parents died because of AIDS. Most children don't tell that their parents are dead. They are working, will be back tomorrow, or they are asleep, like Kgomotso's parents. During the day he is in Tumelong Haven.

Siyabhabha also has a Tumelong Hospice, where people who are dying are cared for. Many people who contract AIDS become isolated and are left by their family. Siyabhabha makes sure that they are not left alone. In the Hospice they can die in peace.

A decrease in AIDS deaths is shown in South Africa, since a big treatment and medication policy started in 2004. Fewer people die in the Hospice nowadays. Sometimes 'only' four a week. (Project by STOP AIDS NOW!)
