dance4life Netherlands

Together with South Africa and Indonesia, dance4life Netherlands was officially launched in the spring of 2004.

2006

A staggering 45,000 children at 50 schools participated in the 2006 schools4life in the Netherlands. They were joined by teachers, artists, companies and many volunteers who all want to be part of dance4life. During the two-week heart connection tour, more than € 70,000 was raised through inventive fundraising activities in act4life by hundreds of participating students, and to date over €450,000 has been raised!

The dance4life event in the Netherlands was held at the Gelredome, Arnhem, with 11,000 youth attending - a huge event! And of course Tiesto performed, along with Lange Frans & Baas B and friends, Don Diablo, De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig and others. It was an amazing event!

Awareness is raised and students are being involved in many ways: through fundraising, by visits from the tour team, by creating Blogs and through an especially developed curriculum.

Act4life

Throughout the Netherlands, students organised fundraising events, big and small. Benefit performances, street theater, selling self-made honey or individual sponsoring... anything was possible. All students who raise €50 or more earnt themselves a ticket to the dance4life event in November. But more importantly: all proceeds of the fundraising activities are put towards the international HIV/AIDS projects of dance4life's partner organisations.

Campaign

Although the two-week heart connection tour is over, the students still have a couple of weeks to raise as much money as they can. act4life is not restricted to students from participating schools: all over the country, a mass media campaign has been launched to invite all young people in the Netherlands to act4life.

lessons4lifeSkills4life

Developed especially for the dance4life skills4life: lessons4life, an interactive curriculum which is presented on the internet. Lessons4life helps students gain insight into global HIV and AIDS related issues, causes and consequences. Through video- and audio fragments with accompanying assignments, games and other interactive tools, students will not only learn lessons about HIV and AIDS and sexual and reproductive health and rights, they will also learn to incorporate these lessons in day-to-day life.

By the end of the course, the students will have put together a plan of action, through which they will acknowledge and actually take responsibility for their role in society.

Tour team

Throughout schools4life, the official dance4life tour team visited all 50 schools, bringing them information, personal stories and dance. They are musicians, dancers, actors, educators. Some of them are living with HIV themselves. Others have lost close relatives to AIDS. All of them want to contribute their energy, enthusiasm and time to the struggle. Some of them are Dutch, others come from African countries.

Radio DJ opens Schools Project

Kick-off

On Monday 19th September, dance4life schools4life kicked off officially. Giel Beelen, a hugely popular DJ with the national radio station 3FM, sounded a gong. At the same time the teachers in the schools taking part in dance4life put the radio programme on over the schools' intercom, which the students hadn't expected, so that all the lessons were interrupted in the classrooms! Giel was live on air interviewing three children taking part, and then played the Tiesto 'dance4life' track before wishing them all luck. Schools4life in the Netherlands have started!

2004

During that summer over a hundred thousand young people got acquainted with dance4life being present at several large scale dance events. At the end of September schools4life started, and a big multi-media campaign for dance4life was launched in October. All working towards D-Day, 27th November 2004, when the dance4life event took place; ten thousand Dutch schoolkids ‘danced for life’ in the Gelderdome Stadium in Arnhem. At the same time Holland's most famous tv-presentor, Jack Spijkerman, presented a two-hour long dance4life television show. Not only schoolkids and artists were joining dance4life; lots of danceclubs, sports clubs and individuals also raised money for dance4life.

Remarkable results were the 2 million euros raised and the 68% of Dutch youth (13-19 years) having heard of dance4life and its goals.
