Dance4Life Tanzania
There is a new NCO in Tanzania - Student Partnerships Worldwide, and they have already started Schools4Life in Chunya and Mbeya and in Dar es Salaam.
2007
The Heart Connection Tour part of Schools4Life have started in a total of 30 schools, and following that Act4Life, with speech and essay writing competitions. On World AIDS Day 2007 there will be two Dance4Life events in the two regions, with artists, ambassadors and the Dance4Life team performing. There will also be presentations by the participating young people to show what they've been working on this year.
2006In 2006 four Tour Teams travelled to Dar es Salaam, Morogor, Bagamoyo and Zanzibar to 27 schools and youth groups, actively involving around 4,600 young people in Schools4Life , who then became Agents of Change. All the youth were introduced to the Dance4Life concept, followed a workshop led by the Tour Team, learnt the Drill and joined in Skills4Life.
Dance4Life Tanzania has two Ambassadors: Fid Q, the premier hip-hop artist in the country and the Unique Sisters, three sisters who spice up hip-hop with lots of soul and R&B. These Ambassadors didn't only perform at the Dance4Life Event in Dar es Salaam, but they also visited schools with the Tour Teams to help involve the youth in Dance4Life. The Unique Sisters managed to visit seven schools in total, and the young people loved meeting their icons!
The line-up for the Dance4Life Event was brilliant with Fid-Q (when he came on stage you could feel the energy and excitement that he gave to the youth in the crowd); the Unique Sisters of course; along with Ebby Sykes, whose songs are usually slow, like the one on the Dance4Life radio on the website, but which he gave a reggae rythym to keep the energy up!; and DJ Marco V who had flown in from the Netherlands to take part. Taji Liundi, the Commissioner of the Tanzanian Commission for HIV/AIDS was there, along with other VIPS and sponsors, and they all joined in with the Drill when they went live with the other countries via satellite.
Schools4Life and the Event got a lot of publicity, with TV shows all about Dance4Life on C2C Television and Channel 10, four radio stations covering the run-up to and the Event itself. The award-winning Dance4Life TV commercial was also aired in Tanzania. So 2006 was a brilliant year for Dance4Life Tanzania, and 2007 should be even better!
Dance4Life 2005About 12,000 young people from Tanzania were already reached by the pilot of Dance4Life in 2005: 300 school children danced at the Dance4Life Event in Dar es Salaam. Through the event they were directly involved in the campaign pushing back HIV and AIDS. More than 10,000 youths all over Tanzania were reached through media coverage. Each young person in the project was challenged to reach at least five others. Dance4Life wants to share knowlegde about HIV and AIDS in a participatory way. No matter what background you have, whether you are male or female, HIV positive of negative, you are invited.
