2007

Dance4Life Nigeria went into schools with their Skills4Life, and took part in a big Ford Foundation meeting in Abuja in November. The Ford Foundation, one of Dance4Life's Global Partners, held a meeting for all the organisations who receive grants from them, and they have asked Dance4Life to give a presentation, with some of the young people from Schools4Life dancing the Drill during the closing dinner. The purpose of the meeting is for the organisations to learn from each other and work more closely together.

2006

6,000 children took part in Schools4Life!
Dance4Life Nigeria began in March 2006, and managed a fantastic Schools4Life in the same year. With the help of local stakeholders Dance4Life Nigeria will took place in four states, which represented four different parts of the country - Lagos, Abuja, Cross River and Kano. Fifteen schools and five communities (consisting of young people who aren't able to attend school) participated about 6,000 young Nigerian people. Schools4Life was so popular, and so many young people turned up to take part that the Tour Teams literally couldn't fit them all in, so lots of them watched through the windows and doors!

Dancing is such a major part of life in Nigeria that everyone loved learning the Drill, especially the part of it when you can freestyle, and all the youth were coming up with their own moves! The enthusiasm of all the young people, of the teachers and the schools, of the ambassadors and the partners, ensured that Dance4Life was a great success in Nigeria in 2006, and has a great foundation for the future.

HIV and AIDS and dance.
Nigeria has one of the largest HIV epidemics in the world with an estimated 3.6 million people living with HIV and AIDS in 2004. It is estimated that more than 60% of new HIV infections occur among people aged 15-25.

For centuries, dance has been used as a means of communication on social issues in Nigeria and has mostly been presented by young people. Hence a Dance4Life event taking place in Nigeria will fit perfectly within this tradition.
