Youth Coalition
The Youth Coalition is an international organisation of young people between the ages of 15 and 29 committed to promoting youth sexual and reproductive rights at the national, regional and international levels. They are made up of students, researchers, volunteers, educators, and activists.
Katie Chau, the Executive Coordinator of Youth Coalition wrote: "Youth Coalition is thrilled to be formally partnering with Dance4Life (D4L). We see this as an excellent opportunity for the YC and, young people in general, to become actively involved in international efforts to combat HIV/AIDS. Currently, more than half of all new HIV infections around the world occur in young people. The most effective way to prevent the spread of this epidemic is to fully engage with young people in the development and implementation of HIV/AIDS and sexual and reproductive health programs and policies. Young people are not merely the victims of HIV/AIDS, but are a vital part of the solution to overcome the epidemic.
The YC is very excited about our partnership with D4L, because it will strengthen meaningful youth participation in important decision-making processes, program planning and program implementation for HIV prevention efforts around the world. Since YC members are all young people between the ages of 15-29 yrs from a variety of countries in all regions, we hope to provide D4L with an international perspective on youth issues, particularly regarding HIV/AIDS and the broader scope of young people’s sexual and reproductive health and rights. Working with D4L will also bring great value to our work, as it will strengthen our alliances with other young people who are actively involved with HIV/AIDS initiatives in their respective countries.
The YC looks forward to working with D4L and further strengthening this partnership. We hope that together, we will be able to effectively bring awareness about HIV/AIDS, build the capacity of young people to be become key participants in decision-making processes about their sexual and reproductive health and rights, and contribute to preventing the spread of HIV worldwide."
