Y-PEER
The development of Y-PEER is one of the activities of the Subcommittee on Peer Education of the United Nations Interagency Group on Young People's Health Development and Protection (IAG). This subcommittee was established in 1999 and has - to date - provided support to peer education in 27 countries in the Central and Eastern Europe, Commonwealth of Independent States, the Baltic States and Central Asia through sub-regional training workshops, advice on project development and educational materials, and through dissemination of information and exchange of experience and good practice.
Y-Peer and dance4life are working closely together as partners, on events and conferences, developing a training manual for Y-Peer peer educators, and Y-Peer are involved in the implementation in some dance4life countries.
From the 26 March 2007 there will be a six week online discussion forum, and dance4life will be one of the co-facilitators on "Acting the Part: Young People in the Spotlight". The objective of this discussion forum is to share effective strategies in the area of popular culture and youth-led media for sexual and reproductive health promotion, drawing on Y-PEER’s expanded, innovative partnerships. The six weeks of discussion shall cover channeling the power of the media to effectively implement strategic behaviour change communication, touching on young people in the spotlight through youth-led and interactive media, theatre and concerts, individual face-to-face testimonials and screen-to-screen dialogue, and radio-based interventions.
